Funnyworks Oz will be in an edition of City News soon after having the opportunity of being interviewed on Thursday! A great opportunity for me to raise my profile and get word out there about my business as a community service and how my programs work as a form of art therapy. More soon once the edition is out! Also term 2 has begun for my Belconnen Arts Centre cartooning and caricaturing workshops - lots of seats still available!
'Funnyworks Oz is preparing again for term 2 "Creative Cartooning & Caricaturing" courses at Belconnen Arts Centre! This is an 8 week course that is challenging, interactive and a heap of fun! I attended the Connect and Participate (CAP) expo yesterday at Old Bus Depot Markets and it was a very busy and interactive day. Lots of community groups and services attended and was a great day for all involved. I ran some small cartooning workshops at my stall and had the opportunity to present on the main stage towards the end of the day - good promotion for Funnyworks Oz and opportunity to explain nature of my business and give a cartooning demo. A frenetic day and brain full at the end of it - great fun!
There's still time to register for the remainder of term 1 or for term 2 cartooning and caricaturing workshops! Just contact Belconnen Art Centre or email me for enquiries. Just completed 2 weekends of live caricaturing at Old Parliament House as part of the Enlighten Festival - a great experience and lots of people wanting to be caricatured! Myself and another cartoonist really worked over 4 four hour periods and around 400 people were caricatured.........whew (including a group of 13)! Lots of fun and a great place for a gig like this. Very lucky to also have the opportunity to provide cartooning workshops there also as part of the Behind the Lines exhibition. More program news soon..........
The "Enlighten Festival" is here again at the parliamentary triangle and Funnyworks Oz is part of it through live caricaturing from 6 - 9pm at the Museum Of Australian Democracy (MOAD) in Old Parliament House on Friday and Saturday nights! Come along and have your pic drawn - it'll only take about 5 minutes and you have a free keepsake to frame. Also a great occasion with lots of fantastic sights and activities! Funnyworks Oz also have exciting new workshop programs including courses at Belconnen Arts Centre on Thursdays from 6 - 7.30pm! Lots of interactive sessions where techniques and tricks of the trade are shown, including character creation and caricaturing. More to come soon!
Just completed our first cartooning workshop at Belconnen Arts Centre (BAC) and a lot of fun was had. This was the first week of an 8 week course (still lots of time to book) which shows people techniques and tricks of the trade in cartooning, as well as picking up skills of creating your own cartoon character and comic strip creation! Just contact BAC for further info or to make a booking!
MOAD workshops are now completed and were great fun over the 2 weeks. Kids and parents were shown the principles of creating caricatures and much enjoyment was had at the expense of a few "prominent" people! I'm now focusing on providing cartoon workshops for young parents in partnership with St Vincent de Paul and also warming up for cartooning workshops through Belconnen Arts Centre, amongst other exciting upcoming programs! I'll keep you posted on these and other events throughout the next few weeks.
The MOAD "Behind the Lines" cartooning program has started and kids and parents alike are getting a real kick out of creating caricatures of prominent people from basic shapes - as is the facilitator! If you're interested in booking a spot just contact Museum Of Australian Democracy in Old Parliament House and hope to see you there! More program updates coming soon....
Holiday Programs are in full swing, having just completed "Spies and Secret Agents" theme at Dickson and Kippax Libraries which were a lot of fun! Sessions were very well attended and we even had media for our Kippax Library session! Next week begins our "Behind The Lines" caricaturing cartooning workshops at Museum Of Australian Democracy (MOAD) over two weeks and I'm really looking forward again to that! I show kids of all ages how to create caricatures of politicians and other leaders beginning with basic shapes - a lot of fun! Cartooning sessions are also being provided at Belconnen Arts Centre (BAC) in February - I'll keep you posted about that in the next couple of weeks!
Last Friday I had the opportunity of providing a 'Quick Draw' session at the Museum Of Australian Democracy (MOAD) at Old Parliament House, as part of their "Behind the Lines" launch. It was a great opportunity for me where I drew around 24 - 28 people over a 2.5 hour period, and also a great warm up for my 2 week holiday program workshop that I'll be providing in January. I met the winner of this year's Behind the Lines, David Rowe - a great talent and he also seemed like a lovely bloke the brief time I met him.....so Congratulations Dave!
