'Funnyworks Oz' just attended a couple of days quick drawing for ACTOSS Designing Social Change conference at UC and had a blast capturing important social issues through illustration and cartooning. Lots of interesting and challenging thoughts and perceptions to capture and head down all the time trying to keep up with all the speakers! Over 10 A2 size pages filled in 3 and a half - 4 hrs over the 2 morning sessions, some which can be seen on my site v soon!
Just got back from the Riverina after covering around 1300 klms and running 11 cartooning workshops - very busy and very rewarding. Lots of travelling around even as far as into Victoria visiting different shires and over 160 kids, showing them some cartooning techniques and how to create your own cartoon character! Had a ball - even got my workshops covered by local media including regional win news, which was great (see below). Another really enjoyable visit to the lovely Riverina - thanks to the wonderful staff and kids - can't wait to do it again! WIN All Australian News - 3rd Jul. 2014 from Webvideodemand on Vimeo.
'Funnyworks Oz' was a feature article in this week's City News publication, featuring a cover photo of yours truly! A great opportunity to promote the business and inform people about Funnyworks Oz and programs provided for the Canberra Community. Also some very accurate depictions of me including "maniacal expression of concentration"...too true! :) [caption id="attachment_569" align="alignnone" width="300"] A study of concentration with a keen sense of fun, Andy is seen striking a familiar pose on the cover of City News in June 2014.[/caption] Andrew draws the line on funny faces BY STEPHEN EASTON IT’S been a long road, but cartoonist Andrew Hore is making a living from drawing funny pictures, and he got himself there by combining his lightning fast scribbling skills with social work. “What I do, it mightn’t…
I'm off to the Riverina again in a couple of weeks for a series of fun cartooning workshops for kids and adults, as part of Riverina Regional Library Service holiday program. I'll be facilitating 11 workshops all around the area from 30th June to 4th July and really looking forward to it. It was a really successful venture 2 years ago and now I'm back for a second round! Find out more or book into a workshop by visiting http://rrl.nsw.gov.au/fun-cartooning/ and more info to come soon.
Funnyworks Oz attended Carers ACT 'Branch Out' launch on Wednesday and captured the occasion through Quick Draw! It was a great turnout including Ricky Stuart giving a speech, media and lots of workers and consumers of the service attending. I illustrated thoughts and opinions of people, as well as caricaturing those game enough! A really enjoyable couple of hours and the cartoon interpretations were really well received, which was also great!
Had a great time at MOAD on Wednesday night live caricaturing with another cartoonist as part of the "101 Humans" event. Lots of drawing towards the end of the event as people had a couple of cocktails in them and became more relaxed about being captured on paper. Legendary local cartoonist and mentor way back Geoff Pryor attended for a Q&A! That alone made it a really good night.
Funnyworks Oz attended the Control & Choice expo at EPIC on Thursday, and I had a great day meeting some wonderful people and services. The day was an opportunity for those with disabilities to visit and gather information from services available to them to choose from once the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) kicks in. And all under the one roof! I was also lucky enough to be interviewed by Genevieve Jacobs from 666 ABC and to link up with people interested in what Funnyworks Oz has to offer, so an exciting opportunity to have the 'Quick Draw' program further established in the ACT and surrounding areas!
Thursday 22nd is the Control and Choice Expo at EPIC which Funnyworks Oz is part of, including being interviewed by 666 ABC at 10.30am! This is part of the National Disability Insurance (NDIS) legislation which will be initiated in the new financial year. This gives those with disabilities more choice in decision making with which support services they wish to utilise and this day promotes the many services (including Funnyworks Oz) that are available. Should be a great day and really looking forward to it - and being interviewed!
Tonight @6.30pm at the National Library is the launch of "The Wonderful World Of Work" for asperteens written by Jeanette Purkis and illustrated by myself! Jeanette is a very talented writer who has released several books previously and with more on the way focusing on those living with aspergers. Should be a really good night and really looking forward to my first book launch - hope there's good nibblies!
Funnyworks Oz will be in an edition of City News soon after having the opportunity of being interviewed on Thursday! A great opportunity for me to raise my profile and get word out there about my business as a community service and how my programs work as a form of art therapy. More soon once the edition is out! Also term 2 has begun for my Belconnen Arts Centre cartooning and caricaturing workshops - lots of seats still available!
